For the last nineteen years, the IGO has followed the mandate that was established during the International Goan Convention in 1988. The IGO (Ontario) continued to pursue a number of projects that were an outcome of the convention, and as a consequence have accomplished much in building bridges between Goa, and the community in Toronto.

More recently however, we have embarked on projects that align themselves more closely with the changing face of Goa. Change as we all know brings discomfort to some, and an excitement and opportunity to others. The IGO rode the tidal wave of change, and saw opportunities to strategically develop some programs, one of which was to work in collaboration with Eduardo Faleiro who was appointed Commissioner for NRI/NRGs.

In order to afford expression to the views of Goans in Ontario, Canada, the IGO provided a platform for members of the Goan community by inviting them to a meeting to assist them to identify their concerns as NRGs. The people who attended the sessions raised seven issues that pertained to non-resident Goans. Following the discussions, the IGO sent one of our Directors to the Global Goan Convention in Goa, in January 2007 to present the issues on our behalf.

Subsequent to the presentation, the President and a Director of the IGO met with the Chief Minister, The Commissioner for NRIs, Lawyers and Bank Managers. Our suggestions and recommendations were well received and our ongoing efforts to achieve tangible outcomes in this regard continue to gain momentum. We strive to get results rather than the 'song and dance' routine that Goans tend to focus on. The website that has been developed will enable all Goans to play an interactive role as well enhance and augment their understanding of the changing face of Goa.

The IGO (Ontario) is committed to continuous improvement. The status quo is not an option. We have skilled, knowledgeable and committed Directors, who together with your support and assistance can ride the wave of change!
